FAQ
Does telehealth work just as well as face-to-face?
In the vast majority of cases - yes. In some cases, it can be even more effective. There is significant research and evidence demonstrating the efficacy of telehealth counselling. However, for some people, face-to-face counselling is better so I am currently seeking out ways that this could be provided in the near future; if you have a strong preference for face-to-face counselling, please let me know.
What are your fees? Will I receive a Medicare rebate?
For most sessions, the fee is $190 . For other services, such as aged care outreach, please see the fee page for further information . Unfortunately, I am unable to provide Medicare rebates for sessions under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). However, the fees I charge are similar to the out-of-pocket gap fee you'd pay if you saw a MHCP provider, such as a psychologist.
Do you offer concession rates?
I do my best to keep my fees as low and as reasonable as possible. For those seeking support for mental health, I have intentionally set my counselling rates to be equivalent to most gap-fee payments you'd pay if you saw a clinician who could provide a Medicare rebate.
My service fees are currently below the suggested rates for practitioners with my qualifications and experience.
However, if you would have difficulty paying the set fee, please have a discussion with me and we may be able to negotiate a temporary reduced fee, or I could suggest alternative practitioners who may be able to offer a lower rate.
What is the difference between a counsellor, social worker, and psychologist?
Counsellors, social workers, and psychologists are all trained in supporting people through emotional, behavioural, and relational difficulties. Their roles can be similar, but the way that they work and the treatments or support they can offer differs.
-
Counsellors can be psychologists, social workers, psychotherapists, or simply have a qualification in counselling. They provide person-centred talk therapy to support people to cope with life challenges.
-
Social Workers engage in a variety of community roles, with some specialising in counselling and mental health, offering psychotherapy like counsellors and psychologists do. Social workers use a holistic approach, looking at a person’s overall life situation and how that may be influencing their mental health. They build collaborative, partnership-based relationships rather than acting as the "expert," and they usually know a lot about the available services in the community.
-
Psychologists have specialised knowledge in human behaviour and mental illness; many also provide counselling and psychotherapy, but some focus on research or psychological testing.

Ultimately, one of the most crucial things in deciding which type of professional to see is that you feel you can trust them and that they have the skills and knowledge to help you.
I acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the sovereign custodians of the lands on which I live and work. This land was stolen and never ceded. I offer my respect and gratitude to their elders past, present, and emerging. This land always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
