About Ari Wylder
Counsellor & Social Worker
Professional Experience
Individual Counselling | Complex Cases | Supervision | Case Management
I've been involved in the mental health sector for over ten years, working in healthcare and community services whilst completing my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. I've worked in a wide variety of settings, which gives me a breadth of understanding of different people and issues. I've provided social work and counselling in the context hospital psychiatric units, palliative care, disability services, community service, and more. Most of the clients I've worked with have identified as belonging to a marginalised community or have had disenfranchising experiences, such as LGBTIQA+ people, carers, ageing people, and those with complex trauma. I've delivered organisational training in the areas of clinical counselling skills and diversity and inclusion, and regularly provide clinical supervision to social workers, counsellors, and professionals in adjacent fields.
Values & Approach
Genuine | Empathetic | Effective | Collaborative
I am strongly committed to value-led work, and strive to ensure that these values are lived out in every aspect of my work and my clients' experience of me and my services. The ways that my values are actualised in my work can be read here.
Lived Experience
LGBTIQA+ | Disability | Mental Illness | Carer +
Lived experience refers to learnings that someone gains from experiences they've had in their personal lives. I have lived and living experiences in common with many of the clients whom I support and am open about this with clients when therapeutically appropriate.
Outside of Work
Friend | Nature-lover | Aspiring Veggie Patch Grower
Outside of work, I take great delight in spending time in the outdoors, discovering nature trails, and finding unique rocks. I value being dependable and empathetic to my loved ones, and take my commitment to being the best guncle (gay-uncle) to my nephews very seriously. I also enjoy re-organising my kitchen cupboards whilst jamming out to 70's hits, and attempting to grow a vegetable garden.
I acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the sovereign custodians of the lands on which I live and work. This land was stolen and never ceded. I offer my respect and gratitude to their elders past, present, and emerging. This land always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
